The proposed theme is in harmony with both the overall project "Proceno, a village of regeneration" and the vocation of the area, a true gateway to Lazio on the border with Tuscany.
The hamlet of Centeno lies within the municipality of Proceno, at the hundredth mile of the road that, during the Middle Ages, was the final stretch of the Via Francigena. Until 1870, Centeno was the seat of the papal customs, had a post station, and an inn. From January 23 to February 10, 1633, the great mathematician, physicist, and philosopher Galileo Galilei spent his days of quarantine and absentia here due to the plague epidemic in Tuscany, en route to Rome to appear before the Commissioner General of the Holy Office.
Boundaries define the space within which we act. They represent what separates us from each other, geographically, politically, socially, existentially, temporally, and physically. They are what distinguishes our corporeality from our mind, the inside from the outside. They divide or protect. They distance or enclose . In a global context where borders appear increasingly blurred, on the one hand, and increasingly rigid, on the other, where we struggle to cross the space of hyper-subjectivism preventing us from rediscovering our relational nature, we want to explore the meaning of the border to rediscover that duality of meaning whereby it represents not only a defensive barrier, but also the possibility of embarking on a path , of tracing and discovering a road, as was the original meaning of "limes".
