The World of Pop-Up: when paper comes to life!
The exhibition “The World of Pop-Up: When Paper Comes to Life!” invites visitors to explore the fascinating universe of pop-up books, offering an immersive and educational experience. Showcasing a curated selection of works from the private collection of Domenico Maiolo, the event aims to highlight a unique artistic and narrative form, still rarely presented in museums: the pop-up. Combining engineering, illustration, storytelling, and paper craftsmanship, pop-up art becomes a powerful expression of creativity and technical mastery. Designed for audiences of all ages, the exhibition evokes both visual wonder and cultural insight. The exhibition is organized into six thematic sections, each exploring a different aspect of the pop-up world: Architecture – Paper reconstructions of buildings, interiors, and cityscapes. Fairy Tales and Stories – Classic and original narratives that leap from the page. Art – Books as three-dimensional, multisensory installations. Fears and the Circus – A mix of charm and mystery with clowns and fantasy creatures. Living Creatures – A moving paper bestiary of real and imaginary animals. Special Artistic Expressions – Conceptual, abstract, and experimental pop-ups. On the first two days of the exhibition, children and families can take part in hands-on creative workshops, including: Pop-up construction Introduction to paper folding Mini-publishing and visual storytelling Led by an expert facilitator, these activities are designed to engage participants in the joy of crafting, storytelling, and imaginative play through paper.
