An original event in Proceno dedicated to thought, reflection and dissemination. The Philosophy Festival will feature philosophers, scholars and enthusiasts engaged in meetings, lectures and public debates.
The chosen theme, “Boundaries”, resonates with the broader project Proceno, a Village of Regeneration, and with the territory’s identity as a symbolic gateway between Lazio and Tuscany. Proceno is a land of thresholds. In its hamlet Centeno, located at the hundredth mile of the medieval Via Francigena, travelers, goods, and ideas once converged. Until 1870, Centeno hosted the Papal customs station, a post station, and an inn. Notably, in 1633, Galileo Galilei spent a period of quarantine here due to a plague outbreak in Tuscany, while en route to Rome to appear before the Holy Office. A boundary is never just a line. Boundaries can be geographical, political, social, existential, or temporal. In a world where boundaries are increasingly blurred on one side and hardened on the other, this event aims to offer a space for collective reflection. Like the original Latin term limes, a boundary becomes a line to follow, a threshold to cross, a starting point for discovery.
It defines where we act, what separates us and what connects us. It is both a margin and a possibility.
They distinguish but also protect. They can divide or embrace.
They raise questions about identity, relationships, and our capacity for openness.
Here, boundaries are not just barriers, but paths, routes, and possibilities.
